What do you get when you combine a brand new exhibition, a live band, vats of melted brie, art activities for adults, and a whole host of good looking people? Walker After Hours! Members, staff, and guests from near and far came together for a preview party to celebrate the opening of Abraham Cruzvillegas: The Autoconstrucción Suites, a solo show of work by the Mexico-city based artist.

Fashion designer Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garcons reportedly gives a single word as instruction to her pattern makers as they begin working on a new collection. In this spirit, Walker members gave one word (or two) in response to Friday’s A Think & A Drink: Member Event, which included a private tour of Dance Works III: Merce Cunningham/Rei Kawakubo with curator Betsy Carpenter, Walker Cunningham Research Fellow Abi Sebaly, fashion designer Emma Berg, and choreographer, curator, performer, and producer Laurie Van Wieren, followed by drinks and small bites in the Garden Terrace Room. A bustling crowd and beat-heavy music illuminated the Walker on Friday for the biannual After Hours party. The opening event for Cindy Sherman, this After Hours was hot. While Sherman attend the party for a short while, she was omnipresent all night in the packed galleries; from the more recent “Society Ladies” to the classic “Untitled Film Stills” to the clever “Historical Portraits,” the walls were filled with a variety of works from her long-spanning career.
Searching for (my) Alter Ego
I have always loved costumes. I would dress up as a kid at any opportunity. I worked in the costume shop in college and designed costumes for a few shows in recent years. I still have a box of “dress up clothes” in my basement that I put to good use as often as possible. [...]

I have always loved costumes. I would dress up as a kid at any opportunity. I worked in the costume shop in college and designed costumes for a few shows in recent years. I still have a box of “dress up clothes” in my basement that I put to good use as often as possible. So, heading to the Guthrie Theater and Children’s Theater‘s joint costume storage, CostumeRentals, was my version of a pilgrimage.
The occasion was sourcing items for the activity “Cindy’s Studio” for the upcoming After Hours: Alter Ego exhibition preview party for Cindy Sherman on November 9. (more…)
