Having followed and studied Picasso since 1972, ( Picasso Exhibit, The Minneapolis Institute of Arts, 1980, Permanent Exhibits in the Hermitage Museum, St. Petersburg, Russia, 1984, 1988, 1999, and 2000, The Chicago Art Institute, 1999, The Picasso Museum, Paris, 2001 and 2004) I found this exhibit at the Walker to be exhilarating, brilliantly conceived, planned and installed. The pairings of paintings of Picasso's with those of American artists are thoughtful, sensible, and startlingly intimate. The viewing of each artists' work next to Picasso's give us an unexpected view into the technique, the personality, the sensibility, the passion of Picasso and of the American artist.
