WACTAC Alumni Jasmine Omorogbe is organizing a conference that features a ton of people that WACTAC has worked with in the past – performer/dancer Mark Bamuthi Joseph, writer/acitvist Bakari Kitwana, and Sha Cage from the Minnesota Spoken Word Association (MNSWA).  It a great line up and the best part is that it’s super cheap – $10!  Click here to register.

Come prepared with a song — contemporary musical theatre or pop, and be prepare to dance.  You will not need a monologue.

The Lab (grades 7-12)
This acting company initially will explore imaginative and fundamental approaches to scene study while establishing a foundation and common language as an ensemble. Through relaxation and trust exercises, sensory work, text analysis and the exploration of techniques for making active choices in the moment- each actor will work to discover the techniques that best support their work. Potential projects include a marathon play creation and performance event (such as 24 plays in 24hrs by 24 actors or car plays which take place in our parking garage) as well as master classes with industry professionals.

Meets bi- monthly (3 and 1/2 hour sessions)
Come prepared with a one minute monologue that tells us something about yourself – something that you connect to personally. Please also bring a resume (if available) and/or be prepared to talk about your experiences onstage.

Dance or theater experience is a plus but not necessary.  All are encouraged to participate. For ages 12-15.

Using elements of movement and drama learn tools and creative habits to generate creative material on the concept of relationship.  Collaborate with other young people in a process that joins contact improvisation, gaga, Alexander Technique, ballet, modern and vernacular dance, theater, spoken word and games, and your own experiences, to name a few influences. This process will challenge you to dig deep within yourself as you work with others. The product will be used for a performance piece for two youths in September.

Advanced Registration:

Students may register in advance for the workshops through March 11 to reserve a spot and receive the discounted rate.  If there are not enough students pre-registered, the workshop will be canceled.

Drop-in students:

Students are welcome to drop-in to workshops if there is space available.  However, Zenon must have a minimum number of students pre-registered to run the workshop.  If you are planning to attend the workshop you are encouraged to register in advance.  Drop-in students do not receive the discounted rate and should check www.zenondance.org or call 612-338-1101 for updates on canceled workshops.

Don’t ask for permission, do it yourself! Start your own underground press during this month-long artist lead workshop for high school students at the Walker Art Center. Students will make a zine, a small scale publication, and explore the world of independent publishing through self-created and repurposed content.

ENGAGING, UNEXPECTED, UNPREDICTABLE STUDENT CREATED PERFORMANCES BY ARTS HIGH STUDENTS

Check out this multidisciplinary performance project is based on examining selected art & performance structures from the Walker Art Center to enhance the powers of observation, generate new perspectives and lead students to create in new directions.  Students spend time investigating the history and characteristics of art & performances and apply their knowledge to the creation of new performance pieces.  Students attend the Walker OUT THERE series of new performances and three PCAE Alumni performances from the MN Fringe festival. Students had opportunities to meet with the performing artists and discuss the performances and artist’s process of creation.

The 2010 CineYouth Festival is now accepting submissions from filmmakers 20 years old and younger!

Officially selected films will be screened and filmmakers are invited to attend exciting workshops, meet film professionals and network with other youth filmmakers from across the country at the Festival, held May 6-8, 2010 at Columbia College Chicago (1104 South Wabash, Chicago).
