Co-Writer/Director of Nobody visits Perpich!

Yesterday, Rob Perez, writer of 40 Days and 40 Nights, & co-writer and director of the upcoming movie, Nobody, came to the Perpich Arts High School to talk to the media, theater and literary art students about directing, acting and screenwriting.

The talk included sneak peeks of the movie and insightful advice. He talked about embracing interests and the inevitability of making mistakes, but working through flaws and obstacles.

The Hype Machine

Allow me to fill you in really quick on the best kept secret in the cyber world- for all you stingy students who haven’t bought a cd since Linkin Park’s The Hybrid Theory, or those of you who just need new music. The appropriately named “Hype Machine” (www.hypem.com) allows you to search every blog on the internet for music posts and see which songs are getting the most attention. From Britney Spears to Nujabes, no matter how obscure the artist or the remix or the mash up or the pish posh (new slang I just made up), the hypemachine will offer up music. You can favorite the song and then listen to it on your dashboard whenever you like. OR if you’re lucky, click on the “read the full [blog] post” button beneath the song and see if the blog hooks you up with a download link. Using this, not only do you get hooked up with the tunes, I have come across some really dope blogs. For intance, THE HOOD INTERNET (www.thehoodinternet.com):

2pac vs. kakiking

Seen above: Tupac having a serious with kaki king (one of many examples).

The kings of the remix, the hood internet offers up hundreds of mash-ups, usually music of modern indie or electronic artists with your favorite mainstream or underground rap artists. Best part: it’s all free.

Go check out the Hype Machine. Go check out The Hood Internet. Thank me later.

Salt, Vinegar and Sugar

Salt, Vinegar and Sugar: Paintings by Louis N. LaPierre
Nicademus Art
March 14th 2009 at 7:00pm
w/ special performance by Face Candy

This show is a collection of work by Louis N. LaPierre. Louis’s works with many different mediums including, acrylic and mixed media pieces on paper and wood. His work is a depiction of contemporary waistlands mixed with the mundane human existence that fosters our surrounding’s continuous state of flux. Salt, Vinegar, and Sugar is an exploration into bitter happiness and sweet despair, diving into utter realities and the joys of being left in the dark. In the end, it is a search into finding comfort in the uncomfortable, and a constant struggle to search out truth when there is no clear truth in sight.

Face Candy
Face Candy is the brain child of E&A frontman, Eyedea. It is an improvisation based quartet melding free-jazz and freestyle rap into an unchartered amalgamation of the two, with roots in jazz, rap, comedy and theater. The line up includes local legends, J.T. bates, Casey O’brien, Eyedea and new found local favorite Kristoff Krane. Come see them as never before in this gallery setting, as they support friend and contributor Louis N. Lapierre. Performance begins around 9:00pm.

Calling all aspiring/established/amateur filmmakers!

Film still by Dallas Cornell

Film still by Dallas Cornell

Deadline for submissions:  MONDAY, JUNE 1

Each year, after the St. Anthony Main fireworks, The Soap Factory holds the Ten Second Film Festival. This festival is a raucous, outdoor screening of the top 100 funniest, dumbest, cleverest, and sometimes most thought-provoking ten second films you’ll ever see. Anyone can submit a film and they’re usually pretty low-tech (as is perfectly obvious from some of the previous years’ footage!). It’s a great opportunity to be shown at a leading art gallery. Most films are made on low-tech, alternative movie-making devices, so whip out those cell phones, digital cameras, and iphones and make some ten second magic!

Submission guidelines can be found on The Soap Factory’s website. Email all film submissions to tensecondfilmfest@gmail.com.

For inspiration, check out previous years’ winners on YouTube.

Let’s Try It Again

Last month WACTAC was ready to present 13 Most Beautiful Young Artists, a multimedia performance featuring original music performed live by 8 groups of young Twin Cities’ musicians. Unfortunately, on the day of the show we had 6″ of snow dumped on us and had to postpone the performance for a later date. Fortunately, we snuck in a tech check before the snow fell. Check out the photos.

Please enable Javascript and Flash to view this Flash video.

Blizzard, sleet, or snow, we hope to present the performance on Thursday night!

POSTPONED UNTIL A LATER DATE!

Unfortunately Minnesota is quite unpredictable, and our event is going to have to be cancelled due to the snow storm. We’re sorry if you got glammed up to come down tonight, but we will try and find a date to reschedule as soon as possible. Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

Have a good night, maybe do a little sledding.
WACTAC
