Round-a-bout Opening reception Saturday, August 9; 6-8pm
Join MCBA in celebrating the work of their teen artist co-op! Round-a-bout features the work of advanced By Design artists Angela Elizabeth Bandoli, Abby Kallas, Aubree Mease and Shannon Lee Turner, plus the recipient of the inaugural By Design Teen Fellowship Anna Renken. Each artist explores a circular pattern: some in format, like a scroll that reads in either direction; others in theme, like lessons learned in vicious cycles. Round-a-bout will be on display from August 9 through September 9, in Open Book’s Cowles Literary Commons.
There are a ton of art related projects/protests scheduled for the Republican National Convention in Saint Paul on September 1st through the 4th. A bunch of activities are being planned at theunconvention.com
One project is being organized by artist Sharon Hayes. Hayes is asking for 100 volunteer performers to recite (as a chorus) a 10–15 minute text about love, politics, gay power, and gay liberation (written by Hayes) over a period of approximately two hours. The performance will take place in a public space in proximity to the Convention.
If you are interested, submit the following information by email to rnc@creativetime.org:
1. Contact information: Phone (home/cell) & e-mail address
2. Do you have any additional resources that you would like to bring to the project?
3. Are you affiliated with any organizations that would be interested in spreading the
word?
4. Do you have any technical or stage management skills?
For more information about the project, click here.

In recent years, Tom has storyboarded for Marvel, Warner Brothers, and Universal on projects featuring popular characters such as the X-Men and produced by visionary filmmakers including Tim Burton, (Director of “Batman,” “Edward Scissorhands,” and “Sweeney Todd”) and Timor Bekmambetov, (Director of “Wanted”).
Presently, de Rosier is working on an animated film directed by Gore Verbinski and starring the talented Johnny Depp (”The Pirates of the Caribbean Trilogy”). The presentation is free and open to the public.
Visit www.cva.edu for more information or call John DuFresne at 651-757-4028 with questions.
Tomorrow, director Lance Hammer will be screening his new film Ballast. WACTAC and filmmakers that particpated in last weekend’s All City Youth Film Showcase will get the special opportunity of meeting and talking with him - we are totally excited! There will be a public screening on Wednesday at 7:30 PM at the Walker.
Another upcoming film event that we are looking forward to is a screening of I’m Not There. The film revolves around the life of Bob Dylan and consists of an all star line up - Cate Blanchett, in an Academy-Award nominated performance, and Christian Bale, Richard Gere, and the recently deceased Heath Ledger. If you needed more reason to go, the film will be accompanied by legendary rock critic Greil Marcus! Marcus is the author of Lipstick Traces (a book that traces the interesction of pop culture and high art through the lens of the Sex Pistols) and Mystery Train (brilliant study of rock’n'roll and American culture).
If you are a high school student and want to go email us at teenprograms@walkerart.org for special discounted tickets.
Dutch artist Theo Jansen demonstrates his amazingly lifelike kinetic sculptures, built from plastic tubes and lemonade bottles. His “Strandbeests” (Beach Creatures) are built to move and even survive on their own.
If you are interested in installation art projects, public protests, and environmental education, the National Park(ing) Day is a project that you should get involved in. National Park(ing) Day (September 29th) is an opportunity to celebrate parks in cities and to promote the need for more parks and green spaces by creating temporary public parks in public parking spaces.
