Bask in this Task recap

By kaitlyn

I think I’m clever with my rhyming title, but I’m actually not! Anyways, who reading this made it to the Task party last Thursday? 10 points for you! Who DIDN’T? You missed out!

To quote an earlier post, TASK is “a project designed by New-York based artist Oliver Herring, TASK Party is an “improvisational event with a simple structure and very few rules” where anything can happen.”

The rules were pretty simple:

1. You had to write a task before you could take a task (example tasks included “Take 20 balloons to your body” and “Hug someone you don’t know.”)
2. Then you had to complete the task you drew.
3. Repeat.

Task certainly lived up to its spontaneous expectations. Throughout the evening old friends (and new friends) were running around the art lab like kids in a candy store, completing and attempting various tasks. It was a great way to spend a typically mundane Thursday evening, and a great way to meet new pals.

If you missed TASK make sure to attend future WACTAC events! We’ve got something big coming up for you chiplets this spring…..just you wait ;D

Adiós!

Sarah Sudoff- At the Hour of Our Death Sarah Sudoff is a photographer who, at the age of seventeen, lost a friend to suicide. While visiting his home the day after the news, she witnessed a clean up crew steam cleaning the carpet in his bedroom. All physical traces of the past 24 hours had literally been wiped away. Her latest series, entitled “At the Hour of Our Death,” takes a long look at Phillip Aries’ observation that “death’s invisibility enhances its terror”. Her photographs capture swatches of bedding, carpet and upholstery marked with the signs of the passing of [...]

WACTAC Meeting 6/10

By kaitlyn

Sarah has returned! Sarah has been away at Oxbow making art all day e’eryday for the past couple of months, we’re hearing about her experiences. This post is being written in real time, just so you know. Are there any teens out there (especially rappers or hip hop artists) who are interested in performing in a  wactac event? PLEASE CONTACT US. THE DEADLINE IS TOMORROW. There are like six conversations going on right now, I can’t even effectively take notes. A couple of weeks ago Nick and Witt took a trip to Sam’s Club (or Costco….I’m not sure?) and they [...]

Bop bah, this is the sound of settling…

By kaitlyn

Last Wednesday I somehow managed to stumble out to the Roy Wilkins Auditorium in downtown Saint Paul to catch the Death Cab for Cutie show. Death Cab is currently on tour with Ra Ra Riot (a really sweet band from NY with a really sweet cello) and Cold War Kids. Roy Wilkins is a really bizarre venue for a show in my opinion. It’s so large! I mean granted they filled up a lot of seats but the standing room area was so expansive. If you weren’t standing in the first row (which I was after a two hour battle [...]

7 Songs you must listen to (if you haven’t already)

By kaitlyn

So I’ve been on a bit of a music hunt lately and somewhere within that I found it necessary to post a blog about the treasures I discovered. 1.Nrrrd Grrrl- MC Chris I wish my rhymes were this clever. 2.The Devils Music- Hospital Bombers Irony is always entertaining. 3.Electric Feel- MGMT Definitely has a cool disco-y vibe. Think along the lines of the Scissor Sisters. 4.Electric Feel (MGMT Cover)- Katy Perry So typically I’m not a huge Katy Perry fan, but this song has a completely different sound than the Katy Perry I’ve known. Acoustic and very raw sounding. Not [...]
