Since 1994, the Walker Art Center has been the innovative leader in teen programming, providing cultural institutions around the world with a successful model for engaging teenagers. The mission of Teen Programs is to connect teenagers to contemporary art and artists. The Walker was the first art museum in the country to devote full-time staff to working with and building teen audiences.

CALL FOR MUSICIANS (AGES 14-18)
WANT TO PERFORM AT THE WALKER ART CENTER?

Seeking musicians (ages 14 – 18) to score films inspired by Andy Warhol. Selected musicians will work with young filmmakers to compose new original works to be performed live during the screening of the film. SCULPTURE FOR LIGHTWEIGHTS
Workshop meets Mondays and Wednesdays 4:30 – 6:30 pm, January 21 – February 16
Registration deadline: Friday, January 16

Registration fee: $30 for Walker members, $35 for non-members
(Scholarships available. Please call 612.375.7628)

Want to test your metal? In this workshop, local artist Amy Toscani will share her knowledge of welding, sewing, and plying light-weight steel to create sculptural objects. Offered in conjunction with the Walker Art Center’s exhibition Tetsumi Kudo: Garden of Metamorphosis, you’ll be able to size up Kudo in the Walker galleries, flex your muscles on some stainless steel in Amy’s studio, and then exhibit your own sculpture in a final showcase. To register for a workshop, contact Teen Programs at 612.375.7628 or teenprograms@walkerart.org. Participants must be high-school age, and each workshop is limited to 15 participants.

POLARIODS, PRINTS, PROJECTIONS: MULTIMEDIA PORTRAITURE

From convincing Lake Street locals to pose for snapshots, to shadowing circus performers on their Midwest tour, photographer Xavier Tavera knows how to select subjects and shoot a portrait. Lead by Xavier and taking its cue from Walker Art Center’s upcoming exhibition Live Forever: Elizabeth Peyton, this workshop will shed light on different techniques in photography and film, and reveal the possibilities they offer in the quest for the perfect portrait. Each workshop participant will showcase their work in a culminating exhibition at the Walker Art Center. Want to attend exhibitions, events, films and performances at the Walker Art Center for FREE?

Join STREAM, a new program of Walker Art Center Teen Programs! STREAM operates like a street team, meaning that you’re in charge of distributing flyers, posters and other marketing materials in exchange for FREE tickets to Walker exhibitions, films, and performances. You’ll also have the unique opportunity to get personalized exhibition tours with the curators, meet Walker artists in residence, and visit artists’ studios.
The team will meet third Tuesday of every month to talk, pick up flyers and discuss events. The group is open to all high school students interested in art that are willing to put in some time and effort into marketing for Teen Programs. You should be willing to talk to other students about the Walker’s upcoming programs for teens, and be excited about getting the word out.
