On November 6th, New Jersey native(s) Danielson will be coming to the Triple Rock. Doors open at 7 pm and it’s all ages. (woo woo!)

I highly recommend going to check them out, they’ll definitely play a good show and know how to play unconventional and interesting music.

They usually perform as a group in nurses uniforms or at least some type of uniform

Musically and conceptually, Danielson is a much more developed band than what’s usually out there and popular at the moment.

Some interesting things about Danielson is that it was a family band of five siblings that was started years n’ years ago as a senior thesis project by eldest sibling Daniel Smith. As far as I know he is really the driving force behind all of the music.

Daniel Smith is also good friends with indie poster boy Sufjan Stevens who used to play in Danielson at one point as well. Stevens album “Seven Swans” was produced by Daniel Smith too. wow!

If you take any interest in Danielson, you’ll soon find out that Daniel Smith’s music is dominated by a strong religious faith.

Even though the idea of Christian music may conjure up images of people waving their hands in religious ecstasy while someone claps onstage and jumps around singing into a britney spears-type microphone, Danielson’s music is way more interesting than that.

Daniel Smith tries to express his religion not through the lyrics in the songs, but the music itself, which makes for a much more interesting listen. If you try to ignore the presence that his religion takes in the music, you miss out on the subtleties of his music and the presentation that’s done to express it all.

For example, there are three different parts that Danielson is composed of: Brother Danielson, Danielson Family, and Danielsonship. It’s meant to imitate the trinity relationship of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

I’m not sure to what extent the Christian component of Danielson’s music would cause some discomfort with people who aren’t of that faith, but I guess I included that information because it’s cool with me and I’m curious if other people felt differently.

It’s all very weird and intricate, but I find it really exciting and I like the music. It’s bizarre and Daniel Smith’s falsetto singing voice is kind of an acquired taste but fun nonetheless.

Their latest album “Ships” was a collaboration of more than 20 musicians and it’s definitely reflected in the vast and cosmic sound of the music on the album. Go buy it! Anyway, go see them, and see what you think for yourself. Regardless, you won’t be disappointed, and you’ll go home with something to think about.
