In luv with Cali? Welcome to the club. Club Med that is.
(Insert Segue here)
Barr, a certain Brendan Fowler whois from none other than LA,spouts wisdoms through spoken word in an effeminate stage demeanor backed byloud-asz beats. (and he’s cute too)
Check him out his myspace hereor his other website.
I first saw him opening for Animal Collective a year n’ ahaffor so ago, at first I wasn’t exactly sure what was going on. Dressed in black slacks and a sweater, I thought he was a tech guy havin a go at the stage life (I’m not joking.) But after a while- I realized what was going on-he won me over. The soundof the beat was turned up way loud and I felt the good vibrations down to my very core. But this is no erotic story. It’s my life!
He has a certain sarcasm in the content of his wordz that would sit very well with cynical hipsters and trendsters alike. And seeing him live brings an abrasiveness to his performance.
It all seemedsurreal to me, a rambling man on stage laying on his sidewith hishead propped up on his elbow while prattling off in a stream-of-consciousness interspersed with insightful quips about life.
Barr is like a spoken word artist for indie rockers. I think to enjoy him you need to dig his ideas. If you dighiswords, his album “Beyond Reinforced Jewel Case”is pretty cool and I’d recommend trying to find it. Good luck.
