Of those three artists, I think Tino Sehgal is most explicitly exploring that question.  I hope you got to experience his piece "This is new" where the staff person at the front desk announced a headline as they gave you your ticket into the galleries.

		<description>Thanks for the Tajima intro.  I'm interested in the question "Why do we pay for a cultural experience?"  

It implies "Why don't people want to pay for a cultural experience?"  Our society is purchase based, market oriented, and totally about consumption.  We buy with abandon.  Part of the danger of purchasing cultural experience seems like it might be that even if the objects/actions/performances are not made into commodities (interchangeable units of exchange) then the experience itself is commodified. Then the audience consuming the experience becomes relatively important and the art becomes performance.</description>
