<description>We are dealing with audiences who have less and less patience with what art demands of them and with critics who are unable to locate and define what it we do with any degree of understanding other than to refer to anitquated templates.
Maybe this is indicative of the enormous globalised regressiveness that is occurring politically, religiously, and economically in a lot of 'developed' countries.
At present I dont see solutions to this other than to provoke discussions on blogs such as these. In my own practice I have been pushed further and further by a growing sentiment that I dont want to involve critics or theatres in the performance process any longer. There simply doesnt seem to any value in bringing a critic in even if it does somehow serve a function of 'publicity'.Tere's response to Joan is a clear headed emotionally loaded response that in one way she should never have to had to've spent the time writing. But on the other hand people like me benefit from reading material this well thought out.
Keep making dance.
