mungiu2.jpgCristian Mungiu, who made the film 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days, gave a revealing and engaging interview Thursday on National Public Radio’s “Fresh Air.” The film, which won the Palm d’Or at Cannes, received its first Twin Cities screening just over a week ago through the Walker’s Expanding the Frame series.

In his discussion with Terry Gross, the Romanian filmmaker talks in detail about the obstacles to creating strong art under a repressive government and of the personal observations and artistic motivations leading to his new film. Toward the end of the broadcast, Mungiu talks about the influence and inspiration he found in legendary Czech filmmaker Milos Forman. The Walker is dedicating its 2008 Regis Dialogue and Retrospective (April 1-22) to Forman, screening most of his better-known films and several of the early films he made in the Czech Republic. Forman comes to the Walker April 12 for a public discussion about his career.
