After reading this New York Times piece about people taking up their lunch hours (and beyond) by watching online video, it seemed to me life at the Walker would could make for a natural mid-day distraction for the masses. So today we launch Eavesdrop — each Webisode captures moments of time in a single day at the Walker, from the glitz of an exhibition’s opening night to the behind-the-scenes work of our framing and installation technicians to whatever schemes the Walker’s Teen Arts Council are hatching.

This debut, Eavesdrop 01.17.08, begins with the overflow Target Free Thursday Night crowd (it was the final cost-free opportunity to catch Frida Kahlo) and moves on to the after-show party from The TEAM’s Particularly in the Heartland (part of Out There 20). In short order, Eavesdrop will become a daily feature, online by 11 am every Monday through Friday. Let me know your thoughts.

  1. The TEAM is without a doubt the best contemporary piece of theater I have seen to date. Not only does it have the unique ability to instill a vast range of emotions on the audience, but it also finds a balance between order and chaos. The use of viewpoints in this work is unmistakably vital, and the cast utilizes them to their full effect. It is amazing how easily one is fooled into believing that they are watching a show where half the cast is composed of children and preteens. Another factor that made this performance unforgettable was the unique use of the audience. Not only was blocking extended into the audience, but it actually encouraged audience participation. From singing and asking questions, to eating popcorn and throwing eggs, this show brings to mind a question of who is the audience and who is the performer. This show truly kept you guessing and on your toes, and I greatly encourage all to see this show, even if it means driving to the TEAMS next venue.
