Coinciding with the Winter Games in Torino, The Snow Show is an exhibition of snow and ice sculpture in Sestriere, backdropped by the Italian Alps. Documented in four stages–conception, construction, realization, and melting–this year’s edition features seven projects by artists including Daniel Buren, Yoko Ono, Kiki Smith, Carsten Höller, and others.

Penal Colony by Yoko Ono and Arata Isozaki

Looking Glass by Kiki Smith and Lebbeus Woods

Slide Meeting by Carsten Höller, Tod Williams and Billie Tsien
i went to see it yesterday. most of the works were covered by snow and we couldn’t get access to them. Ono and Isozaki’s work was melting so no access there either. plus it took me ages to find the place because no one in the city seemed to know about the exhibition. in fact i was the only visitor that morning.

Interesting. Looks like they update the site regularly. Too bad it’s not so great in person.

I went to see the snow show last weekend. the recent snow fallls gave a nice fresh looks to the projects.
the project of foster+plensa was a revelation for me, nothing similar to the pictures on the website : the coordinates were glowing from under the snow: it was wonderfull! In fact there was quite some people and I had to wait to get down the slide of holler… The melting process of ono’s project is quite impressive and I can’t wait to see images of it breaking down.

Thanks Giorgio. Any chance you’ve got photos of your visit? If so, send me one (paul.schmelzer@walkerart.org).
