This is my first attempt at live blogging my notes from Museums and the Web. The session is called Blogs, Pods and Mobiles.

Denise Bressler from the Liberty Science Center.

Discusses her paper about targeting teenagers mobile educational programs. Cited a Pew study that says 57% of American teenagers have mobile phones. That seems like a surprisingly low number, but she described teenagers as the archetypal mobile super users (that’s a quote from her paper).

New mobile services to look into:

Rave wireless, trying to integrate students into campus life.

CellFlix Festival, competition for videos shot on cellphone video cameras.

24 Hour Mobile Game Mosh, contest for writing a mobile game.

Older but interesting program:

ArtMobs + Yellow Arrow uses stickers to tag museums work with SMS codes to register comments.

Summary of Liberty Science Center survey says teenagers want to use their phone to shoot video and unfortunately not to take a cell phone audio tour. They were more interested in using non-voice functionality, although observing teenagers using cell phone audio tours indicates more positive results. Discussion with teenagers after using the tour suggested they wanted to use more mobile web technologies as an extension of the cell phone audio tour.
