I just came across this page and noticed that you were wondering about ways to control or parameterize a Zoomify image through URL parameters.

If this is still relevant to you (I notice this was from some time ago), I have been designing & implementing a Zoomify interface with some aspects controlled through URL parameters, and may be able to advise you on what is and is not possible.

You can see an example of the site I've been developing at http://www2.shu.ac.uk/sfca/claimMapOSTown.cfm?claim=1-2

I know that this is an older post but if you are still looking at this issue, you may want to check out Virtual Iris. They have two sites. http://www.virtualiris.com and http://www.irisize.com. The seem to be doing some of the things that Zoomify does but without the bounding box.
