As requested i took some images of the tables and it’s guts the last time i walked by. Marek was adjusting the lights inside the table all day. There are little plastic rotating arms that hold small rakes of infared LED lights. You can see them in some of the pictures. The arms and lights are the white plastic things on the inside. The LED lights are a new addition in this version apparently they are much brigher and last much longer than the old bulb style.

  1. This is great! It looks like an deep sea creature with many layers of teeth. Ready to bite. This rocks, thanks Eric!
I’m curious about those rotating arms. Are they a reactive part of the interaction, or part of the gesture recognition system?

  2. No they aren’t reactive at all. They are just for positioning the LEDs. Because the LEDs are very directional (the light doesn’t diffuse much in the bulb) they need to point in just the right angles to cover the entire frosted glass with infared light. Once Marek gets them all pointed the right ways he screws them down tight so the won’t move again.

Unless someone really kicks the table hard.
