Staying at the lake up north, I only read about an anonymous woman being hit and killed by a garbage truck near our condo in Lowertown. My daughter just called to say it was Jean Matzke. I am shocked and deeply saddened. I first met Jean at the Art Crawl, just having established myself in Studio 401 in the JAX building. We met again when she showed my daughter a studio for sale in her building. Jean was a memorable person. For her artistic talent, but also for her beautiful spirit of welcoming, sharing, and delighting in the world around her. What a tragedy. What a loss to all, including the art community and her friends and family. The last time I saw her we spoke of the work of hers I wanted to purchase. A small piece, showing the human heart and vessels leading in and out of it. If anyone knows if it is still available, please contact me at njpaj@skypoint.com
My condolences to her family.
