That book affected me like few others, and after reading it, I honestly felt like it wouldn't translate into a film very well. I loved The Proposition too though, and I think that Hillcoat could potentially get the atmosphere right. Like Viggo Mortenson said in the NYT, a lot is riding on the performance of the kid. It is no different than any other book being adapted for film, but the book had such a profound effect on me...and it seemed I had barely put the book down before the rights had been snatched up. That being said, I am a big fan of <i>The Proposition</i> and feel that Hillcoat may be able to pull it off. Either way, I'm anxious to see the completed film.
