See,i felt they had a lot of similarities. They both had lover/muse/leading ladies, they both loved exquisite exterior shots, they both had existential trilogies '59-'64.

I wish I had hints to give. No doubt Antonioni and Bergman retrospectives will be traveling around quite a bit the next few years. Let's hope one lands here.

Two interesting essays in the New York Times today. One authored by Woody Allen about Ingmar Bergman (The Man Who Asked Hard Questions) and the other authored by Martin Scorsese about Antonioni (The Man Who Set Film Free.) I very much enjoyed Scorsese's and was actually quite moved, but I think that has more to do with Antonioni than Scorsese.

Do you know if any movie screan in Twin Cities is going to show their films?
I would live to see most of them again.

Thanks for any hint.

It's amazing that they both died on the same day, but I'm a little sad that Antonioni has seemingly been given short shrift by the press. L'Avventura is a film that affected me like few others have--granted, a must-see on the big screen. I'll also plug The Passenger and Blow Up, a great influence on subsequent films.
