Couldn't agree more, however NicheFlix (a Netflix for region free DVD player owners) went out of business on January 1st. It will be interesting to see how Tears of a Black Tiger does, which opens here in February. As I'm sure you know, this film is six years old at this point, and an excellent example of Miramax sitting on a title. Anyone who wanted to see this film, including me, has the Thai DVD or the UK DVD. Nonetheless, I will be there opening weekend to see this film on the big screen, and hopefully so will lots of people who have no idea who Wisit Sasanatieng is.

Region-free DVD is picking up the slack. Take a look at YesAsia.com, an online rental service like NicheFlix or your favorite torrent tracker and you'll get a better picture of the level of U.S. interest in the global movie market.

Sadly, theater bookers are so slow to move on these fascinating films. It doesn't help that American studios, like Miramax, snatch up foreign films then shelve them.
