Pohlad goes west: The New York Times Magazine highlights Bill Pohlad, of Minneapolis-based River Road Entertainment (and a friend of the Walker), along with other “fabulously wealthy individuals that have come from other businesses to Hollywood in the last few years.” The magazine highlights Pohlad and others for supporting “sophisticated yet commercially viable films that probably would not have been made were it left up to the studios.” Pohlad, whose Brokeback Mountain screened at the Walker’s Ang Lee retrospective in 2005, produced Lee’s Lust Caution and Sean Penn’s Into the Wild, both now in theaters.

Spam, personalized: Along the lines of that naughtily titled book of hand-drawn typography I mentioned a few weeks back, here’s an artist who’s rendering subject lines of spam emails as Photoshop illustrations.

Catching up with the Conchords: Flight of the Conchords, the hilariously droll HBO series about two dimwitted Kiwi folk singers making a go of it in New York, is now out on DVD.
